Speaking of Christmas music, Amazon has a bunch of Christmas albums for $5 this month. Meanwhile I put together a list of some actual good holiday tunes as an Amazon wishlist. (It's not actually a wishlist, I already have all of these.)
I started this list shortly after Walt claimed not to know that there are people who are making new holiday music (how facetiously I'm not sure). With that in mind, I tended to pick original contemporary songs, plus a few outstanding covers. I've been collecting holiday music since being inspired by the original cool MetaFilter threads, so it's not an exhaustive list of my iTunes “❄ xmas ❄” playlist, as that would be more work and even more boring. There are a lot of single songs called out, but you can sample the rest of the albums to find more (probably covers and standards) by the same artists, or some songs I just didn't dig. I preferred links to the songs on Amazon MP3, but large swathes are available on iTunes, Emusic and rdio as well.
From a cursory glance, my list is entirely 100% disjoint from Amazon's $5 albums, so you should probably take at least one of these lists with a grain of salt. Happy holidays!
